Original woodblock print on washi with illustrations of turtles and the devil child. Made by Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831–1889).
Washi is sturdier than wood pulp paper. It is used, especially in Japan, in art, for example for origami, ukiyo-e and Japanese calligraphy. It was also traditionally used to make clothing, toys, household items and ritual and religious objects.
The two pages are glued together and are part of 'Kyosai Gadan album part 1' from 1887.
