Jūni Shinshō is a unique reference work for tattoo artists and art enthusiasts that explores the origins of the Twelve Heavenly Generals, the protectors of the Medicine Buddha, Yakushi Nyorai.
Description
During my visit to Takaosan Yakuōin Yūkiji Temple, I saw a stone statue depicting the twelve animals of the Asian zodiac, each accompanied by a powerful deity. It turned out to be a representation of the Twelve Heavenly Generals (十二神将, Jūni Shinshō), protectors of Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of Medicine. The Twelve Heavenly Generals, each associated with a zodiac sign, not only protect us from illness and misfortune but also symbolize strength, balance, and spiritual harmony.
That experience on Mount Takao became the inspiration for this book.
This book is made for you. For the enthusiast of Japanese tattoo art, for the tattoo artist seeking depth, and for anyone who wants to honor their zodiac sign in the form of a traditional Japanese tattoo design.
Based on original temple sources from Japan, this book combines iconography, color, symbolism, and composition within the context of traditional Japanese tattoo art.
